MyTutor.chat helps learners to prepare for and participate in maths competitions by teaching reasoning and problem solving skills.
The skills learned prepare learners for life.
These mathematical problems are the most practical, relevant and realistic, helping to build bridges from mathematical theory to situations encountered in daily life, and to do so in a fun way.
MyTutor.chat is an entirely free service and setting up an account takes a few minutes. Registration instructions are available here or you can watch this video showing the steps in the registration process.
This summarises what you can access if you have, or do not have, an account:

Can you solve today's daily puzzle:
We have started to develop a tutorial that is constantly being extended.
It includes many problems and video explanations, as will as theory.
This is a great starting point for someone who has never been exposed to maths competitions before and is a great introduction, offering some motivation and inspiration as well as some tips, tricks and strategies that will improve performance.
We have developed a video library that is available on YouTube that is constantly being extended. Here is an example video:
We aim to have 500 videos by the end of 2023, with the videos presenting a questions, before giving a detailed explanation and the solution.
MyTutor.chat's will most effectively help you to improve your reasoning and mathematical ability as you go through our question library and work through the solutions to the questions you get wrong after trying to solve them. We have 1500 questions with detailed solutions available, and each learner will receive questions appropriate to their level. Every learner gets their own personal journey where the questions we ask are tailored to their level:
if you get questions right, the questions will become harder, and
if you get the questions wrong, they will get easier.
Learners can access clues if they need assistance, and will receive a detailed solutions on submitting their answer. There is evidence that we present the solution at the time that the learner is most able to learn how to solve the problem, which is just after they have grappled with the problem. The answers are presented as a series of slides that the learners can work through at their own pace, with evidence showing that this is more effective than video instruction that goes at a set pace - sometimes too fast, and at other times, too slow.Sign in to your account and access this question library from the MyTutor.chat landing page, or from the menu as Question Chat (Home).
We have put together some past papers of various levels of difficulty.
Some find these useful, although the best learning is the interactive question library.
We host various events that a user can start whenever they wish.
We are currently running the 2023 event where all questions relate to the year 2023:
Building on the success of an event we hosted with questions related to the FIFA World Cup in 2022, we will run some sports themed events over the coming year, with a an event linked to the Women's Cricket T20 World Cup ebing hosted in February, an event with netball related questions around the Netball World Cup being held in July and an event with rugby related questions to be held in October.
We will host the Kangaroo International Mathematics Competition in Rwanda from now to 31 August. Registration is possible from mid-May and participation is free. Learners will be able to participate online, and teachers will be able to access resources to participate offline.
We currently offer these in South Africa where we host the South African Mathematics Olympiad (SAMO) and the South African Mathematics Challenge (SAMC). We hope to offer invigilated events in Rwanda in future.
You are invited to join the MyTutor.chat WhatsApp group for Rwandans. We will post periodically to draw notify the group of events and functionality that will be of interest. To join the group, click on this button or link:
